Botox Insurance Help
Hyperhidrosis treatments have improved significantly over the years. For example, Botox (botulinum toxin) injections for the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis have helped transform the lives of many sufferers. By "turning off" the signals that trigger excessive sweating, Botox treatment allows sufferers to lead more normal lives -- relieved for months of the overwhelming symptoms of hyperhidrosis. Results of Botox injections last about six to nine months, and ongoing injections can provide continued relief.
But, Botox can be costly for patients and seeking coverage for this treatment from insurance companies can be daunting. There are, however, some promising avenues that patients and their healthcare providers can explore when considering Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis.
AbbVie Patient Support Programs
AbbVie, the company that owns Botox, offers several programs designed to support patients and their healthcare providers throughout the treatment process.
Botox Complete (formerly the Botox Savings Program)
Botox Complete is a personalized support program for patients that provides resources, treatment information and potential ways to save.
Eligible commercially-insured patients may pay as little as $0* for Botox treatment, depending on coverage and program terms.
Patients may enroll if they:
- Are currently receiving Botox for an FDA-approved condition (such as axillary hyperhidrosis)
- Are 18 or older, or the parent/caregiver of a patient under 18 receiving treatment
- Receive treatment in the U.S. or U.S. territories
The program includes:
- Reimbursement claim submission through a personalized dashboard
- Access to a Specialty Pharmacy Savings Card (if applicable) for prescription cost savings
Additional notes:
- Patients previously enrolled in the Botox Savings Program do not need to re-enroll
- Support is available to all patients, regardless of insurance (though savings eligibility varies)
- Patients with Medicare or Medicaid are not eligible for savings offers
For questions, call 1-800-44-BOTOX (1-800-442-6869).
*Eligibility restrictions and program limits apply. In some states, savings may apply only to the cost of Botox, not administration.
myAbbVie Assist (Patient Assistance Program)
For eligible patients who are uninsured or underinsured, myAbbVie Assist may provide Botox at no cost.
Patient eligibility requirements:
- Be under the care of a licensed U.S. healthcare provider and prescribed Botox
- Have limited or no health insurance coverage
- Meet income eligibility requirements
- Be a U.S. resident
How patients can apply:
- Patients work with their healthcare providers to complete the Botox Patient Access Support Enrollment and Prescription Form
- Patients or their providers submit the completed form to AbbVie for review
- AbbVie will notify the patient and their provider about the application status
For more information, call 1-800-222-6885.
Botox ONE (For Healthcare Providers)
Botox ONE is a secure online portal used by healthcare providers and their staff to help patients access Botox treatment and navigate reimbursement.
Through Botox ONE, providers can:
- Verify insurance benefits
- Submit and track prior authorizations
- Access payer-specific coverage criteria
- Enroll patients in support and savings programs
- Receive reimbursement guidance
As an HCP, you can use Botox ONE to help streamline access to treatment for your patients.
Why These Programs Matter
We love to highlight acts of generosity, kindness and support! AbbVie's Botox programs are great examples. By giving people with hyperhidrosis the opportunity to pursue this costly but very effective treatment, AbbVie is providing a life-changing service to sufferers.
Christine Fleckenstein, Community Support Specialist with the International Hyperhidrosis Society, has a lot of interaction with the people in our hyperhidrosis community and shares:
"Patients need to know about these programs because they expand access to care. Many people assume Botox is out of reach but with the right support, it may not be. These programs can help bridge the gap and open the door to effective treatment."
Remember, also, that patients may have opportunities to receive free treatment as part of clinical trials or clinician training events. Please be sure to open and read our news blog for announcements about these opportunities.
