Just in Time for #NH5D!

Info You Need for Drier High Fives

This National High Five Day, the International Hyperhidrosis Society wants to remind you that there are great treatments for excessive sweating and that simple acts like high fives, handshakes, and hugs don’t need to be nightmares anymore. A lot has happened since the International Hyperhidrosis Society opened its doors more than a decade ago:

• Improved antiperspirant formulations
• Advances in onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX) injection techniques
miraDry introduced in 2013
Lasers taking on new targets as sweat-busters
• Treatments being combined effectively in new ways
• Vastly increased excessive sweating awareness
• New treatments in research and development right now! (Make sure you're subscribed to our hyperhidrosis news blogto receive private invitations and updates.)

In fact, so much has changed in the management and understanding of excessive sweating, that the International Hyperhidrosis Society recently overhauled its educational brochure to ensure it includes updated and expanded information on all the latest treatment options. Look for it in a hyperhidrosis physician's office near you! (Want all the newest info now? Just visit the hyperhidrosis treatment pages of the International Hyperhidrosis Society -- we update our online content constantly.)

The makers of the specialty non-prescription antiperspirant Certain Dri have supported the reboot of our educational brochure (through an unrestricted educational grant). DSE/Certain Dri is also generously providing the 1,300 U.S. healthcare providers registered in our Physician Finder with a complimentary batch of the brochures PLUS free samples of Certain Dri’s new and improved antiperspirant formulation.

Certain Dri, while over-the-counter, contains the same active ingredient as many prescription strength antiperspirants at a potentially gentler concentration (12% compared to 15-20%) and in a water base (as opposed to an alcohol base). The new formulation is slightly thicker to prevent bottle leakage and, according to customer feedback, it’s even milder on sensitive skin. The new formulation will replace the old one and started shipping to retailers in late 2014. Tried Certain Dri in the past? Maybe it’s time to try it again. Have you tried it on your hands? Get ready for high fives!

We spoke with Raymond Abrahamsen, Vice President of Marketing with DSE Healthcare Solutions and long-time supporter of the International Hyperhidrosis Society. We asked about his company’s commitment to improving the lives of those suffering from excessive sweating and especially its dedication to young people with the condition. (DSE/Certain Dri sponsors not only our new educational brochure but also our teen website SweatOmeter.org as well as SweatHelp.org.)

The emotional stress caused by excessive sweating, remarks Raymond, “is especially severe among teenagers who are perhaps not as well equipped to deal with it and who are so susceptible to peer pressure and bullying.”

“We’ve seen,” says Ray, “that the emotional stress of hyperhidrosis is tremendous, but here’s a product that can help, and to have a product that can help is gratifying and good business. People with hyperhidrosis shouldn’t give up. There are ways to help manage excessive sweating so you can move on and enjoy life.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. High fives to Raymond for his sincere dedication to the hyperhidrosis community. He, and other folks who support the IHHS, are refreshing examples of doing well by doing good.
