ETS Surgery: Conclusion
Role of ETS in treatment of hyperhidrosis
Much more effective in reducing sweating of the palms than of
the axillae, ETS should be considered for patients with palmar
symptoms not responding to more conservative treatment.[9]
For axillary hyperhidrosis, there are alternative surgical
procedures that are probably more effective and less invasive
(see Local Surgical Procedures ).[145]
Although no large series have been reported, the procedure
has some efficacy for facial hyperhidrosis.[112]
The technology used in ETS has been continually improving,
allowing surgeons to use smaller thoracoscopes and video assistance.
But despite these advances, compensatory hyperhidrosis has
not changed in incidence and continues to be the most common
reason for lack of satisfaction with ETS.[72,152]
